AMIGA RACES AHEAD ON ALL FRONTS ¦ Over 2 million Amigas sold worldwide and over 500,000 A500s in UK ¦ A2000 to be relaunched as graphics workstation ¦ Commodore Show hailed as great success ¦ More details of new A1500 bundle The Amiga's success both in the UK and worldwide has been confirmed by two landmarks surpassed during November, with the number of Amigas made passing the 2 million mark and half a million A500s bought in the UK alone. The Amiga has now comfortably overtaken the Atari ST as the leading 16-bit computer, a position that is expected to be consolidated over the Christmas period as Commodore's attractive bundles sell out. The latest bundle, the A1SOO, is an A2000 look-a-like with twin internal disk drives, a monitor and one megabyte of memory priced at £999, (News, Issue 17). New details now emerging reveal that the acclaimed animated chess game from Electronic Arts, Battle Chess, will also be included and joining Amiga Format's very own book, Get the Most Out ot Your Amiga, is an A-Z of Computer Jargon. The A1500 has put question marks over the future of the A2000, but Commodore have now revealed that it will be relaunched in the New Year as a graphics workstation with a hard disk as standard. What other software and hardware will be bundled with it is still undecided but one strong possibility is that it will be fitted with the full Enhanced Chip Set and include Workbench 2 and the multimedia authoring system AmigaVlolon. The bright future for the Amiga was highlighted by the healthy turnout at the Commodore Show during November. One exciting rumour suggested that there may be as many as twelve Amiga 24-bit 'True Colour' cards (see Graphics, Issue 17) around by this time next year.
