The big boys use Ethernet to iink workstations to mainfirames. PCs to PGs and most industriai computers. Hydra Systems, a British company, has dcveioped an Ethernet card for the Amiga which provides compatibiii-ty with Amiga and industry standard fiie Systems. The iink is up to 1.000 times faster than other networks, making it an effec tive way for a number of Amigas - or any other machine - to share a hard dise. There is a card version for the A2000 with a cheaper extemai unit for the A500. Such a setup is ideai for educationai estabiishments which often want to iink iarge numbers of computers. Ethernet can cope with up to 8,000 users at a time. The software has been written by Periheiion to integrate weü with the Amiga operating system. whiie Hydra has deveioped the hardware which is aiready instaiied at a num ber of ciients. Hydra has a iong history of producing Commodore networks, which made the Pet a sensibie soiution for businesses which needed a muiti-user system. Ethernet wiii take the Amiga into advanced fieids where it can be used as a fuiiy biown workstation.
