Back in the good old days we had World of Amiga shows put on every year, usually at a high profile site (Wembley) and all well attended. Everybody wanted to be there and be seen, Amiga was seen as a very popular alternative to the cumbersome PC. After the collapse of Commodore commercial shows gradually shrank with World of Amiga 99 being the last commercial show. Several Amiga user groups were not satisfied without a regular show and decided to organise their own shows. After several smaller shows SEAL, Kickstart, ANT and ASA got together to organise a joint show in the South East of England. So the idea of World of Amiga South East was born and the first task was to find a venue. It was obvious from the start that any venue had to meet certain criteria. Excellent transport links by both road (close to M25) and railways are essential as is good car parking (preferably free) at the venue. We all know Amigans like a drink or two so a licensed bar is also a priority. The venue has to also be the right size, big enough to hold the exhibitors but not so big that you have enough room for a game of football as well! Another important consideration is that the venue is near at least one of the usergroups so they can do all the pre-show groundwork. Above all the venue has to have all these qualities at a price the usergroups can fford. To give you an idea a venue capable of holding between 300 and 500 people can cost anywhere from £500 to £1000 (outside London) for a day.
